The Pecan Capital of the World Texas 42 Tournament enjoyed its fourth year in a row, weekend before last. Players drive from all over the state, and sometimes from out of state, to participate in the event, which takes place Friday night and most of Saturday and has become an annual spring and fall event.
The first few events the prize money simply went to the winners. But last spring the event started being a benefit for Meals on Wheels, with this fall's contribution being the most so far, at $1,500.
Friday night saw 18 teams play, with 23 teams Saturday. Several local teams participated, but the vast majority were members of the National 42 Players Association (N42PA.org) who follow the tournaments around the state.
Other than the N42PA, the main sponsor was Marcus Wood (Wood Law), who contributed most of the prizes, with some contribution from Alamo as well. Texas42.live (a game website) contributed memberships to participants and winners also.
The next Pecan Capital tournament is scheduled for March. Don't miss it!
