Jacob Uptain honored with Letter of Commendation at City Council meeting

During the January 9th City Council meeting, Chief John Bauer read a “Letter of Commendation” written by Officer Eric Batchelor recognizing Jacob Uptain stating, “Uptain’s action prevented possible injury or death to the responding fire department personnel and reflects great positivity on himself, the Electrical Department, and the City of San Saba.”

Presentations:

Jacob Uptain, City Employee working in the Electric Department, was also selected as the Employee of the Month for January. Denver Daniel, Electric Department Supervisor and Alderman Marcus Amthor presented Jacob with a plaque with his name on it and a gift certificate to a local restaurant.

Mayor Ken Jordan called the January 9th meeting to order and announced a quorum, and Alderman MarcusAmthor let the Invocation and Pledges.

Public Comments:

Carrie Pickering addressed the City Council and explained the Linebarger Law Firm has represented San Saba County Appraisal District for twentyfive plus years and presented the City with a check in the amount of $4,217.00 for Tax Sale Excess Proceeds.

Consent Agenda:

On a motion by Alderman Shawn Oliver, seconded by Alderman Marcus Amthor, Council unanimously approved the following: minutes from the December 12, 2022, council meeting; payment of bills; and Resolution No. 2023-01 designating the San Saba News & Star as the official town newspaper; and acceptance of 2022 Racial Profiling Report.

Discussion / Action Items: The first item for discussion/ action was to Discuss, consider and approve awarding the quote for SCADA improvements to Dedicated Controls for $14,535.00. Mayor Pro-Tem Robert Whitten made a motion awarding the quote for SCADA improvements to Dedicated Controls for $14,535.00 seconded by Alderman Michael Nelson and was unanimously approved.

The second item for discussion/ action was to Discuss and consider approval of Financial Audit. Kevin Shahan will be present to answer questions. Kevin Shahan addressed the City Council and asked them to review the three letters in front of the audit. Mr. Shahan said the Internal Controls were functionally sound and functioning well. He gave the Audit a Clean Opinion for the 2022 Year Report and said the City is in better shape than last year. Mr. Shahan also gave a ‘Thank you’to the Girls at City Hall and the City Manager. Alderman Michael Nelson made a motion to approve the 2022 Financial Audit, seconded by Alderman Shawn Oliver and was unanimously approved by all.

Scott Edmonson, City Manager reported on the following activities in the City of San Saba:

• Tree Trimming at the Golf Course and Michael Whitley reported there are no pecans at the Golf Course this year.

 

• The Street Department and the Parks Department are taking down the Christmas lights.

 

• The Waterline Project should be complete in two weeks.

 

• Electric Department has been trimming trees and set the Pad Mount.

 

• Street Department has been patching streets throughout the City.

 

• All Departments are working together to clean up the City yard.

 

• Sanitation Department is back on schedule.

 

•Animal Control Officer Jason Vogel had a rough time during the Holidays with dogs due to fireworks.

 

• Bluffton is looking a lot better, and they have cleaned up quite a bit.

 

• ATMOS has started boring exploratory holes today.

Chief John Bauer reported he received a $25,000 for Polaris ATV from LCRA Grant. The jail has been receiving phone calls regarding the jail.
