60 Years Ago February 7, 1963
Mr. and Mrs. Santos Soto of Rochelle have announced the birth of a daughter, Mary Gloria, seven pounds and 10 ounces, born Feb. 2. The couple have two other children including Ernestine, three years old, Richard, two years old. Mrs. Soto is the former Mary Gloria Aleman.
Frank Wells, Pepper and Mitsy, of Richland Springs and Sherry Shaw, Joe Shaw and a friend, Bobby O'Neal of Austin were in Locker.
Buck Till of Richland Springs visited the J. C. Tills.
Dr. R. C. Tennison, pastor of First Baptist Church here, has announced his retirement. He came to San Saba from Hamilton 11 years ago, and he has been an ordained minister for 45 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnny G. Goodwyn of San Saba have announced the birth of a son, Jerry Lee, seven pounds and 14 ounces, born Jan. 27. The couple has four other children including Johnny, nine years, Diana, six years, Jackie, five years and Charlene, three years old. Mrs. Goodwyn is the form Claris Rhone.
Nancy Kidd made the allimportant point just as the final buzzer sounded, to edge by the Llano girls with a score of 4241 in a thriller. Judy Woodward scored 23 points while Nancy Kidd made 14 and Mary Jo Ellis, five. Coach David Holmstrom said the local cagers now stand 2-3 in District play and 6-8 for the year.
The San Saba High School building was vandalized. Vandals entered the building through a window in the girls' restroom. Lockers were emptied. Books and notebooks were scattered about with some of them being torn. Students were having trouble finding all their books and papers which they had left in their lockers. The vandals also entered the junior high building through a window. They repeated their performance. A fire extinguisher was emptied on the floor and sprayed on the trophy case. Some of the playground equipment also was abused Friday night after the ball game, Supt. Akridge stated.

The 7th grade Lady Dillos basketball team traveled to Jim Ned to win 22-12 and win the district championship with a 9-1 record. Team members are: Teresa Aragon, Sunnye Baskin, Rebeca Cervantes, Delana Cisneroz, Megan Cisneroz, Hannah Crosby, Kara Davis, Kelly Henry, Jimma Hicks, Sonni Hunt, Tara Owens, Autumn Reno, Yesenia Saldivar, Miranda Wilson, Courtney Womack and Jane Young. Managers are Ann Marie Carpenter and Samantha Young.
Rosario and Arthur Jimenez of San Saba are proud to announce the birth of their son, Jeremiah Ross Jimenez, born January 21. Jeremiah weighed 6 lbs., 4 oz. and was 19 inches long. He was welcomed home by his big brothers, Isaac and Jason Jimenez.
Mrs. Rosetta Garrett celebrated her 89th birthday with all her children Seguin.
The Knights of Columbus had their 3rd Annual Free Throw Competition. This year's winner was Bianca Zepeda for the 10 year old division. Calea Turner won first in the 11 year old division. Hannah Crosby came in 1st in the girls 12 year old division. And Robert Pulatie was first in the boys 12 year old division. Jeri Dyer won the 14 year old girls division. For the 13 year old division first place, girls was Amber Perez, boys was Daniel Addkison. There were no boys in the 14 year old age group.
Melissa Norris of San Saba graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration during the fall 2002 commencement ceremonies at Texas Tech University.
Mark Whiting, music therapy, from San Saba was named to the Dean's List for the fall 2002 semester at Texas Woman's University.
The Texas Mavericks football tryout was a huge success in San Saba. Prospective players showed great effort and relentless determination to possibly pursue their childhood dreams of being a professional football player. The Texas Mavericks organization is as excited as the players about training camp and expect the exact same energy from the returning players.
