2022 Angel Unaware Tree

Every year at Christmastime, the San Saba County Child Welfare Board (SSCCWB) organizes the Angels Unaware tree gift distribution to help make this time of year special for children ages birth through 6th grade who are in need. The SSCCWB relies on the community to participate with this endeavor. According to Corina Fauley, Angels Unaware Volunteer, the community really came through this year, and it was a tremendous success! They were able to help 88 children because of generous people who truly care for the children of San Saba County.

Here is how it worked this year: Arrowhead Bank hosted the David Williams Memorial Christmas Tree that was decorated with numbered ornaments. Each ornament represented a child. Members of the community would go by and get an ornament with the name and age of a child as well as gift suggestions and clothing sizes, buy gifts, and drop them off at Alamo Pecan & Coffee - the drop-off location. This year, Dollar General also made a huge donation of new toys.

San Saba Student Council teens participated by making up candy bags for each child to help them feel extra special. The donated gifts were then wonderfully wrapped by the “wrapping elves” who worked hard all week! The gifts were then packed together by child in big black bags for delivery.

Space at San Saba’s First Baptist Church was used as the “wrapping station.”

And finally, it was time… The Delivery Day Elves which consisted of members of the Volunteer Fire Departments of Richland Springs and San Saba, our local police, and city employees delivered the gifts to the thankful families. They made sure each child received their gifts. Delivery day was definitely a team effort and would not have been possible without all these volunteers working together.

The San Saba County Child Welfare Board appreciates all the community support from businesses and citizens who participated in this incredible event. Next year, you too can help our children in need and be an Angel Unaware!
