Doris Fay Parks Cates passed away at her home on Thursday. October 13, 2022. She will be interred at China Creek Cemetery.
Ms. Cates was born on January 12, 1941 in Locker, Texas, to Claude Houston and Odessa Mallett (Stewart) Parks.
Ms. Cates married James B. Cates on August 25, 1956 in San Saba, Texas, divorcing July 5, 1984. She retired from Norwest Bank in Waco, Texas, after 22 1/2 years of service.
Ms. Cates was very active for many many years in many, many years in 4-H, first as a leader, then later as advisor and judge. She was active in Wallace Creek E.E. Club, San Saba Historical Commission, China Creek Cemetery Association, San Saba First Baptist Church, Friends of the Rylander Library, Friends of the San Saba Museum, and United Daughters of the Confederacy. She loved genealogy, quilting, sewing, and gardening.
Ms. Cates is preceded in death by her parents and brothers: Gerald, Tommy, and Thurman Parks.
Ms. Cates is survived by her brother, William Henry Parks, Sr.; daughters: Ramona Siebenmann, and Sandra Whitlatch and husband, John; son, James “Rusty” Cates and wife, Shelbi; eight grandchildren: Bradley Wimberley and wife, Krystal; Gerald Kinder; Amanda Wiggins and husband, Jeremy; Justin Wimberley and wife, Jillian; William “Willie” Roy and wife, Ashley; Kelsey Whitlatch; Lydia Cates, and Mason Cates. Ms. Cates also leaves behind 14 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family greatly appreciates Ramona for taking care of Memaw for the last four years. Also, a very special “Thank You” to Laura Parks and her daughter, Gracie, and to the staff of Solaris Home Health for their assistance in caring for our loved one.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the San Saba Cancer Foundation or to the China Creek Cemetery Association.
