Announcement has been received here of the marriage of Miss Minnie Belle McLean to Mr. Walter J. Ligon of Vallejo, California. Mrs. Ligon is the daughter of District Judge and Mrs. J. H. McLean of Llano, and is well known and popular throughout this part of the state.
Ernest Walker of Fort Worth is here visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Walker of this city.
J. T. McConnel has been chosen city commissioner vice Rivers Morris, whose removal beyond the city limits disqualify him holding the office.
There were 3,889 bales of cotton counting round as half bales, ginned in San Saba county prior to Oct. 1, 1925 as compared with 4838 bales ginning to Oct. 1, 1924.––Cary Bryant Special Agent.
Mr. and Mrs. Brock Ashby made a business trip to Wichita Falls this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank B. Hall and Mrs. Viva Hall have been attending the Dallas Fair this week.
Mrs. Hunter Harlan was hostess to the Bridge Club, when the following played: Mdms. L. A. Skaggs, R. S. Miller, C. B. Smith, C. G. Gosh, E. S. Laird, Arch Woods, W. E. Barrow, Clay Kuykendall, Alton Martin, J. H. Baker, Misses Dorothy Woods, and Jayme Campbell.
Mrs. Fred Townsend was hostess to the young matrons 42 Club, when the following enjoyed a delightful afternoon: Mesdames Marvin Morris, W. A. Martin, John L. Walker, G. L. Huckaby, Herbert Clark, H. D. Callahan, Wm. Harbuck.
Resuming their winning streak which had been rudely interrupted by the Lampasas Badgers, Chas. Reece's Fighting Armadillos gave Barnhill's Goldthwaite Eagles a thoro plucking on the Fair Park grid, winning 25 to 0. The visitors were hopelessly outclassed in every phase of the game excepting the overhead department.
67 Years Ago October 20, 1955 A check for $100 was received in the mail by Supt. S. G. Boynton from Rockdale school officials as forfeit money for breach of contract as a result of Rockdale cancelling a scheduled football game here with the San Saba Armadillos. This amount was specified in the contract between the two schools. The check was not accompanied by any other communication.
Jerry Johnson, corpsman in the U.S. Navy Hospital in San Diego, Calif., returned to his base after a 30-day visit with his parents, the Irby Johnsons.
Storm waters draining off Wallace street will be channeled under the sidewalk on the San Saba National Bank corner in the near future in an effort to enable pedestrians to cross the street dry-shod at that point following rains. The San Saba Band Club will receive about $275.00 from the special Betty Crocker sales event the club sponsored in San Saba grocery stores the past two weekends, according to Mrs. W. E. Bryant, chairman of the sales committee.
Among farmers plowing up their peanuts last week was Geo A. Churchwell of Locker, who had 17 acres ready for harvest. Churchwell expects the yield to be about 20 bushels per acre, the best he has had in several years.
Miss Paula Bryant, San Saba High School senior, has been named editor of the school annual, 'The Armadillo,' for the 1955-56 school term. Other staff members are Buddy Oliver, assistant editor; Roscoe Laird and Don Woodruff, photography; Joel Daniels, feature editor; and Gradine Isham and Lonette Taff, art editors. Mrs. Ruth Jones is the faculty advisor.
