Lesa Calley started last week as the new Jail Administrator for San Saba County. She has been working in dispatch for San Saba County on and off since 2000. She left working for San Saba County in 2019. Lesa stated she worked at Wise Meat Market for about a year before coming back to work for San Saba County. She came back to work in dispatch because “this is my passion.” She considered returning to this field in different counties but didn’t want to travel.
Lesa stated the hardest part of the job is the mental stress. They are behind the radio 24/7 and get a lot of calls. She stated that an important part of their job is keeping the officers safe. I asked her how they help keep the officers safe. Some examples she gave were getting as much information as possible from the callers, calling backup when needed, keeping in touch with the officers while they are out on a call. Until the officers call and let the dispatcher know they are finished with a call, the dispatchers must do a 'status check' with the officers every so often to make sure all is okay. The dispatchers always know where they officers are when out on calls. Each type of call (traffic stop, welfare check, etc.) has a certain window of time before the dispatcher calls to check in with the officer. Lesa takes very seriously her job of keeping the officers safe.
Lesa and her husband, Charles, have two grown children, Bryon who lives in Fredericksburg and Bladen who lives in San Marcos.
Congratulations, Lesa, on your new position! And, thanks for your passion and for helping to keep our officers safe!
