By Cathy Ledbetter Check In With Your Energy

I was looking for something on my computer and found this column that I had written right at three years ago. At the time it was too painful to publish, so I wrote something else. The time seems right now. I hope it speaks to someone who needs to hear it.

This morning when I saw the following two statements on a FaceBook page: “Switch your mentality from ‘I’m broken and helpless’ to ‘I’m growing and healing’ and watch how fast your life changes for the better.” and “It’s perfectly healthy to say, ‘Let me remove myself from this type of pattern and check in with my energy before I attract more.’” There was no attribution for either statement, so I have to assume they belong to the owner of the page, a young man who calls himself a “news analyst, hip-hop artist, activist, and social media influencer.” If he is the person who said these things, he is a genius.

These statements, if internal- ized and acted upon, could save so much destruction. I know from unfortunate personal experience how a helpless mindset and being stuck in destructive thought and behavior patterns can drag a person down, remove opportunity, and even lead to a loss of life.

A few days ago, I was standing in front of a church having just attended the funeral of a very young man who had taken his own life. One of the people standing in my group, a very strong, older man, said “That could have just as easily been me at times in the past.” Many people, like the man in my group, have been in destructive patterns and have felt helpless enough to contemplate ending their lives. But that man clearly found a way to break out of the pattern and to realize that he could grow and heal. The boy in the back of the hearse did not see a way out of the pattern. His family and friends are left wondering how they could have helped, intervened, said or done just the right thing at the right time, how he could have failed to know how much he was loved by so many people.

I think we all feel broken and helpless at times. I think we all fall into negative energy and negative patterns. We all forget how to get back to the positive energy sometimes. We all sometimes forget that we all have the ability to control our own thoughts and actions and to break patterns. Just like every other thing that involves effort, practice makes perfect. The more you practice “removing yourself from a pattern and checking in on your energy,” or choosing “growing and healing” over “broken and helpless,” the easier it gets to do so, and the easier it gets to stay on the up-side, the growing and healing side. And you are never too far gone nor too old to turn around and head back toward the Light. I wish you all loads of Light. <SpringCreekArtsGuild@gmail.com>
