The San Saba Armadillos implemented a ball-control ground attack in their first scrimmage at Menard and returned home with a 2-1 victory. Eddie Cantu capped the drive with a two-yard burst on a fourth down and one situation. Fullback Tracy Smith tacked on the only other San Saba tally of the night with 35-yard plunge off a trap.
A San Saba youth and three juveniles were apprehended between Brady and Eden by Department of Public Safety patrolman Larry Sawyer shortly after the theft of a 1979 LTD Landau from Golding Motors, Inc. was reported.
Bobby Rosalio Cantu of San Saba was among the 189 students receiving degrees during summer commencement at Angelo State University. He was awarded the Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in economics.
Wanda Wharton won the Ladies' Golf Club Championship in a tournament that spanned two Thursdays. She shot a 189 to win the prestigious tournament.
Cindy Bailey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Bailey of Cherokee, received her Master's degree from Abilene Christian University in commencement exercises. The degree was in education with a reading specialist certification. Miss Bailey earned her Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and elementary education certification at ACU. She is a 4th grade teacher in San Saba Elementary.
Superintendent of Schools Bill Grusendorf welcomes the sixty some odd faculty members back to work for the new school year.
The paving of the parking lot at the Cherokee schools is now complete. The Cherokee Partent-Teacher Club undertook the project and raised the money through various fundraising projects.
13 Years Ago August 27, 2009 Windy and Shirley Fleming always spend the summers at their home in Maine. Windy reported that it has been the wettest summer on record. Also the 8th coolest. I bet they are glad they didn't spend the summer in Cherokee.
The Red Hatters and a random group of other exuberant San Saba ladies were welcomed to Ann McElroy's playhouse near Harmony Ridge to celebrate the end of summer.
Will and Sarah Broyles are proud to announce the arrival of Leslie Allen and Lily Marie Broyles. Leslie and Lily arrived weighing 5 lbs. 1 oz., and 5 lbs. 4 oz.
The 2009-2010 RSHS cheerleaders attended the Universal Cheer Association (UCA) Camp at San Angelo this summer. The girls received all superior ribbons in all evaluations. They also received the 2009 Superior Trophy and were invited to attend the Capitol One Bowl. Emily Smith and Courtney Herbert were namedAll-American Team. Brooke Bennett received the Tradition Trophy for the mascot. Cheerleaders in attendance include Brooklyn McGinty, Marsha McMillan, Stormi Davee, Courtney Herbert, Kensie Green, Brooke Bennett, and Emily Smith.
The 2009 4-H Horse Show was held in Abilene. The team of Abby Dellis, Zack Haydon, and Jarred Haydon placed 10th in the Team Penning event. The team had a total time of 6 head in 3:06.
Traditionally, the Dilloettes dance the Can-Can on homecoming as well as other times of the year. When the Dilloettes dance the Can-Can anything can happen and often does. From boots flying into the air to feet flying out from under them to adrenaline running high and causing higher kicks and torn ligaments, all Dilloettes recall their experiences with the Can-Can. You have an opportunity to see Dilloette alumni dance the Can-Can again at the upcoming pep rally and football game. Alumni have been practicing for a month and although some kicks may not be as high as they once were, you will recognize the characteristic dance steps.
