Cherokee Happenings

Thank God for the rain!! Its raining right now as I type. Watching the rain run down the street headed to the Cherokee Creek is a wonderful sight.

Our sincere condolences go out to Jerry and Alberta Allred at the passing of their daughter Angela.

Clinton Collier is spending a few days in the hospital under observation. Hopefully he’ll be home soon.

The Cherokee Indians scrimmaged Priddy at their home stadium Friday night. A Belton team also came to scrimmage, but due to an equipment glitch, they didn’t get to play. I was so happy to open the cafe up for 5th quarter. The team made me very proud when they treated the Belton boys to pizza and drinks.

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Bode Barker’s four-yearold granddaughter, Miss Trinity Barker, for her title of Mini Queen in the Little Miss Pageant in Burnet Saturday.

Mrs. Mason (Tori) Weaver was honored with a baby shower Saturday at the Church of Christ Annex. This will be the Weavers first child and Tommy and Kaci Morrison’s first grandchild. Tori is a 2017 graduate of Cherokee High School.

I traveled to New Jersey last week to visit a couple of friends that I made in Scotland in 2019.

While there, we went to the National Independence Park. We toured Independence Hall where the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence were debated and signed. I also saw the Liberty Bell and the site where George Washington’s house once stood.

We ate pastries at Carlo’s Bakery which was featured on Cake Boss. We also went and walked on the boardwalk and the beach at the Jersey shore.

It was a great mini-vacation. Cherokee JV will play Smoking For Jesus JV (a private school) at Home on Thursday night at 6:30, and then the Cherokee Indians Varsity will play Smoking For Jesus Varsity in Burnet at 7:30 on Friday night.

There will be a Pep Rally in the Old Gym on the Cherokee campus Friday at 4:00 p.m. Come out and cheer for these special athletes.

Mark your calenders for September 10th for the annual VFD fundraiser here at the Cherokee Fire Hall.

I hope you've all had a great week, and we'll see you Around the Corner.
