Action of Richland Springs school board last week definitely placed an extra grade in the system, bringing it up to what by next year will be a Texas and nation-wide standard. The school will have twelve grades instead of eleven, the change being made in the grammar department.
Allan Crane has recently completed a neat field stone cottage on the property he bought in the southeastern part of town.
Miss Elsa Behrens, saleslady at Jones Dry Goods, is taking her vacation which she is spending with her sisters in San Antonio.
Mr. and Mrs. Cary Franklin have let the contract for a five room rock veneer house to be build on West Wallace St. Will Franklin is doing the carpenter work and the Cameron Roofing Co. has the contract.
Miss Helen Lidstone is named among the students of the University of Texas who received her B. A. degree at the close of the second semester. Miss Lidstone has been on the faculty of the San Saba High School for a number of years and is one of its most valuable teachers.
A large number of improvements have been made and are being made at Hotel San Saba following the recent purchase of the former community-owned hostelry by Geo. B. and Stoy D. Roberts, with extensive improvements finished in the large kitchens. The Hotel Beauty Shop, under the management of Mrs. Laura Hayden, has undergone a number of improvements, as has the barber shop there. New carpets have been placed in the hallways and in many of the rooms which have been otherwise improved.
Appointed to be provisional second lieutenant in the John Tarleton College cadet corps in the fall is Willard Reavis of San Saba. Reavis is one of 66 provisional officers appointed by Major Jas. D. Bender, professor of military science and tactics.

Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Walker and Stanley honored his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Walker of Taft, California with a barbecue. Those present enjoyed barbecued goat and all the trimmings which was followed with games of '42'.
Glenn Edward (Eddie) Knight of San Saba is the recipient of the University Honor Scholarship at Southwestern University in Georgetown. Knight, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Crutsinger, is a 1960 graduate of San Saba High School.
Mr. and Mrs. Peter H. Van Saal have returned to their home in San Saba after spending the summer vacationing in the United States. They traveled in New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Oregon, Washington, Vancouver in British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota.
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Sellman took their daughter and children, Mrs. D. M. Skidmore and Skippy and Sam to Cisco where they boarded the train for their home in El Paso after spending two weeks visiting with her parents in San Saba.
Frank Hall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Hall, had the misfortune to fall while skating, breaking the bone in his ankle. It is hoped the injury mends soon so he will be able to attend school and can play on the Junior football team .
The San Saba High School Band, led by Drum Major Jerry Mac Gage, will be paced by four majorettes this year, Russell Lewis, band director, announced this week. Majorettes include Joan Matthews, Linda Booker and Cheri Mays, all of whom were majorettes last year and Johnnie Beth Garrett, new to the group.
