The Richland Springs Report

If extreme heat could make you lose weight, I believe I would lose at least 10 pounds of fat. Doesn't work for me, I just feel weak, not lighter. To get ready for my upcoming trip, I’m getting up and walking most mornings. My walking must be done before eight in the morning. I know this makes me sound like a wimp, but many years ago, I was playing tennis in weather like this and suffered a heat stroke.

Since then, I have little tolerance for heat. So please, be careful in this heat.

Vacation Bible School is next week, Monday through Thursday, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. It’s been a while since we’ve had the children here, so I’m excited to see all my little sweeties again.

Kristie Perry is heading the event. If you want to volunteer, I’m sure your help would be appreciated. I’m doing the crafts, so there will be at least one science project each day. We’re going to have one messy time. If you need a ride and you live in Richland Springs, please call the parsonage or church, and let them know before Monday.

I think I’m suffering from a damaged ego. I believe that the methods used for disposing of a child in the womb would not be tolerated in the animal world. I understand the issue and will debate it with anyone who wants to ask me. Apparently, my own niece thinks I’m ignorant and don’t know the rules of debate. That’s the issue I see with what is going on in our country. There is no debate or respect for other’s opinions. If you don’t agree, either way, the name calling starts. I really do believe that my advanced years, decades of learning and teaching, deserve some respect, but it appears I’m alone in that opinion. Fortunately, I have a sense of humor. I guess that’s what we need as a country, respect, and a sense of humor.

By now, parents should have read that the school will be providing all school supplies. That is a blessing to many families during this economic crunch. That means parents will not have to overbuy supplies that won’t be needed or used. Save your money, parents; buy an extra outfit. Please check with the school dress code before you do. I guarantee you will be told by students that there is no dress code, but that would be incorrect. Modesty is the general rule.

Once again, Richland Springs 4th of July celebration was an outstanding success. Our fireworks are becoming renown in the area.

The auction went well, and the committee did a wonderful job with the silent auction. Thank you to those community members who donated items for the auction.

Prayers are needed for several people in the area who are fighting cancer. The Starr family requested prayer after receiving horrific news regarding members in their family. Although I have not heard from the other churches, I know they have lengthy prayer lists that require prayer. Peggy Thompkins is praising God that she doesn’t have to have surgery. Please take time to pray for rain. There seems to be little in the forecast, but God is the keeper of the storm. We need four inches or more around here. Please pray for our country, our President, and the danger around the world. Most of all pray for our precious troops around the world, at the border and their families.

Stay safe and cool.
