Is Jesus Real?

Have you ever heard of someone who lived a long time ago but you never knew? Perhaps it was a great-great-grandfather that some of your relatives talk about. Maybe it was an uncle or an aunt that you never knew. Whoever it might have been, did you ever doubt that that person existed? That person lived and had a life. My dad was the oldest of his family, and my mom was the youngest. Mom’s family all lived in the north and dads lived in the south. I grew up in the south and never even met most of mom’s side of the family. But I believe that they existed.

Jesus was God. He was flesh as well. In John’s gospel, chapter 1, we see this. Verses 1-3 speaks of the “Word” that He came into this world to save sinners from their wicked destination. He healed many people, performed many miracles, was hated by the leaders of the Jews, and put to death on a cross outside of Jerusalem. He was buried, rose the third day as prophesied He would, and is at the right hand of the Father in heaven.

Just as I’ve never seen many of my relatives, I’ve never seen Jesus. But I believe He is real and alive today.

Jesus was a person of history much like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Shakespeare, etc. I believe each of these men lived and did something that many people noticed who they were. In the first century there were men who were not believers in Christianity that wrote about Jesus. There were Jewish writers of that time that spoke of Him, but they had nothing good to say about Him.

There are some today that will say they do not believe in Jesus. History proves that he was as real as you and me. The Bible tells us of His prophesied coming, His birth, His life and His death and resurrection. Why is it easier for some people to believe that a man named Shakespeare lived, whom they have never see existed, and yet Jesus did not?

Do you believe Jesus was a real person who lived upon the earth? Do you believe He performed many miracles? Do you believe He was God? There is so much evidence that proves that He is.

Jesus asked some people in Luke 6:46, “Why do you call Me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?” (NASB) If we believe in Jesus, we should follow His teaching and His life. He is Lord over all. Nothing can change that, and He is Lord whether some believe it or not. I hope you believe this and I pray that all men would repent of their sins and turn to follow the creator of the world. Hear His teachings, be obedient to them, and one day you will live with Him.
