St. Lukes Episcopal Church awarded Historical Marker

St. Lukes Episcopal Church, built in 1896 and dedicated in 1897, has been awarded an Historical Marker by The Texas State Historical Commission. The Unveiling and Dedication will be held on April 27, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. on the church property located at the corner of 4th and Dry Streets. The research and application of this award was accomplished by the San Saba County Historical Commission (SSCHC) led by Jerry Blankenship, PhD, who did the detailed research necessary to achieve this historical honor.

The Right Reverend David Reed (Bishop of West Texas) will be present to dedicate the marker, and Dr. Blankenship will read the history of St. Lukes Church. The original congregation dates from before 1856 when San Saba County was organized. We are hoping to have a representative from the State Commission as well as members of the San Saba County Commission (SSCHC). The public is invited to attend this historical event for the county and St. Lukes.

After the Dedication

The Church will be open for anyone that has not seen the inside of this historical venue, and refreshments will be served in the Parish Hall for fellowship and visitation.

The Bishop of West Texas and members of St. Lukes will also be present to answer any questions about the Episcopal Church and its parent: "The Church of England" and "The World Wide Anglican Commission."
