Nettie Oma Carpenter was received into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on March 30, 2022, in Temple, Texas. She was born on October 19, 1930, in San Saba, Texas, to Roy and Sadie Ross (Ragsdale). She was a direct descendent of David Matsler, one of the first settlers of San Saba County in 1856. Nettie Oma radiated her Christian love to all with whom she came in contact. She will be remembered by many for her beautiful music as she served the Lord through the years playing organ, piano, and singing in the church choir as well as the Men’s Bible Class, Rotary, Eastern Star, weddings, and funerals. Her covered dishes for church and Eastern Star events were always a favorite.
She was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church in San Saba as well as the Women’s Society, a member of the Fellowship of Christian Women, Eastern Star and San Saba Historical Society. For 50 years she was a faithful employee of San Saba National Bank which later became Arrowhead Bank. She married Herbert Clark Jr., August 1, 1948, the father of her children: Cynthia, Ernie and Herbie. She married Robert Carpenter August 15, 1970, the father of her son, John.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Vernon Sweeney of Stephenville; son, John Carpenter of San Saba; step-daughter, Cynthia Thomas of Kerrville; grandchildren: Michael Sweeney and wife Heather of Dallas, and David Sweeney and wife Emily of Fort Worth; step-grandchildren: Hansel Dobbs and wife Laura of Allen, and Meredith Dobbs of Plano; great-grandchildren: Sadie, Luke, and Jonathan Sweeney of Dallas, and Owen and Molly Sweeney of Fort Worth; step-great grandchildren: Carson, Owen and Nathan Dobbs of Allen, and Everly Cifuentes of Plano; brother, Red Ragsdale of Hurst; and Joe and wife Naomi Ragsdale of San Saba. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Carpenter 1991; sons: Herbert Clark III (Herbie) in 1955 and Ernie Clark in 1983; step-daughter, Cathy Carpenter Dobbs in 1993; her father, Roy Ragsdale in 1998; her mother, Sadie Ragsdale in 2000; and her sister, Oleta Conner in 2009.
A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in San Saba, Texas, with Reverend John Paul Spurlock Officiating. Interment followed at Chappel Cemetery.
