Lady Dillos hoops crushes Charlotte in Bi-District playoffs

The San Saba High School girls varsity basketball team earned itself a 2A Bi-District championship victory on Monday, February 14, when the Lady Dillos routed Charlotte High School at neutral site Champion High School in Boerne.

The Lady Dillos scored early and scored often as they led 21-6 at the end of the first quarter, 42-13 at halftime, scored a whopping 30 points in the third quarter to take a 72-17 lead and coasted the rest of the way for an easy 86-36 victory.

A balanced scoring attack for the Lady Dillos was a fantastic way for San Saba to start its potential deep run in the Class 2A playoffs. Junior guard Lexy Amthor again had a great game for San Saba with a team-high 13 points, while Lady Dillos senior forward Landri Glover knocked down multiple three-pointers and finished with 12 points.

Also scoring in double figures for the Lady Dillos was freshman forward Cinzlea Stanton with 10 points, senior Nojemi Martinez had another solid game with nine points, junior guard Madison Shahan and sophomore guard Jenna Lambert each added eight points, while freshman guard Olivia Sebastain scored all seven of her points in the first quarter.

As a team, the Lady Dillos frustrated the Lady Trojans all night with a tight full-court defense that resulted in many Charlotte turnovers on one end and points for San Saba on the other end.

Several other players stepped up and scored for the Lady Dillos as senior guard Maritza Aguirre had seven points, junior forward Caroline McHam added five points, junior guard Virginia Diaz also had five points, while senior guard Jaycie Everett scored two points and made some great passes to her teammates.

The Lady Dillos (27-7 overall record during the 2021-22 season) control their own destiny and will next play this week on Thursday or Friday evening against the winner of the Yorktown High School and Riviera Kaufer High School bi-district game that is scheduled for Tuesday night.

San Saba is coming off an extremely hard-fought 37-35 loss back on February 8 hosting rival Mason High School that placed the Lady Dillos in a three-way share of the District 29-2A championship with the Cowgirls and Harper High School. Following a coin flip between the three teams, it was determined that Mason was the highest seed entering the 2A tournament followed by Harper second and San Saba third.
