The San Saba High School girls and boys varsity basketball teams both got victories on the road this past Friday night at Center Point High School to stay undefeated in District 29-2A play this 2021-22 season.
San Saba Lady Dillos 47, Lipan Lady Indians 50
In their final non-District game of the season, the Lady Dillos went on the road and put up one heck of a fight against the No. 5 team in the TGCA 2A rankings (and defending Class 2A champion) Lipan High School squad.
Despite trailing 25-23 at halftime, the Lady Dillos fought neck-and-neck with the Lady Indians and took a 47-45 lead with just 45 seconds to go in regulation with hopes of a massive victory. Unfortunately for San Saba, Lipan would tie the game up at 47-47 then hit some clutch free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
San Saba junior forward Lexy Amthor and sophomore guard Jenna Lambert each scored in double figures on the night for the Lady Dillos with 10 points apiece, while senior guard Jaedah Lambert added nine points of her own. The Lady Dillos also got six points apiece from senior center Nojemi Martinez and fellow senior forward Landri Glover.
San Saba Lady Dillos 76, Center Point Lady Pirates 19
From start to finish against an inferior opponent, the Lady Dillos handled their business on Friday night as San Saba thrashed District foe Center Point High School 76-19 at home.
Amthor again led the Lady Dillos in scoring on the night with a game-high 15 points, while Glover and freshman guard Olivia Sebastain each scored in double figures in the victory with 10 points each.
The lopsided win for San Saba improved the Lady Dillos’ record to 20-5 overall for the 2021-22 season and a perfect 4-0 mark in District play. San Saba will host Junction High School on Tuesday night before traveling at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, January 14th for a massive showdown on the road at rival Mason High School.
The Lady Dillos are currently ranked No. 9 in the Texas Girls Coaches Association poll for Class 2A, while the Cowgirls are No. 24 with an 18-7 overall record and 4-0 in District games.
San Saba Dillos 84, Center Point Pirates 42
The Saba Saba boys varsity squad picked up one of its most dominant wins of the season so far as the Dillos ran away to an impressive 84-42 win at Center Point.
The Dillos were led in a fantastic outing by junior forward Dylan Ware, who dominated his way to a game-high 27 points and could not be stopped in the paint. Senior guard Reagan Mejia had a solid 18 points on the night, while junior forward Lane King added 15 points of his own.
San Saba, which improved to 10-7 overall and a 2-0 record in District play, will host Junction on Tuesday before traveling on January 14th for a game at Mason.
