Another year of COVID: Numbers for COVID-19 patients went up, went down, and went up again during 2021. Vaccines and boosters still strongly encouraged by medical professionals.

Raul Rocha (with his Abuelia) was anonymously recognized during Storm Uri for his selfless acts and hard work at Rick’s One Stop.

Because of Storm Uri’s aftermath (February 11th), many County residents kept faucets slowly dripping to possibly avoid freezing pipes. However, this method proved useless in many cases.

City of San Saba employees, Bill Wallace and Jesse Hunt, along with two employees from Grimsley Electric (Bwd), look for the problem in the electric panel that caused the pump to be down. What resulted from the non-functional water pump was the City’s requirement for residents to boil their water for five days overall. City of San Saba residents were without water and electricity for two days during Storm Uri. This photo accompanied the first article in a series of “Unsung Heroes” was published in the March 4th edition of the San Saba News & Star. Articles covered the heroes from the City of San Saba, including the Police Department; San Saba County Sheriff’s Dept., including the Dispatchers; EMS; and County Volunteer Fire Departments.

Owen Parks resigned after 38 years of serving on the Hickory UWCD Board of Directors.

San Saba Garden Club (SSGC) mourned the sudden loss of Becky Moore. Becky had been a member of SSGC since 2012 and took a very active role as a member and as an officer.

All three County schools gave excellent performances at the UIL Track and Field State Meet. Here, Joey Bond of Cherokee High School is shown launching the shotput. He ended up winning the gold with a 50-1 3/4.

Scott Edmonson becomes the new City Manager on May 17, 2021. He had been serving as Llano’s City Manager.

Chris Jost becomes SSHS’s new basketball coach. In same issue, Courtnee Cash, Logan Glover, and Risien Shahan were featured as Academic All-Americans by NHSCA.

The 9/11 20-Year Remembrance Ceremony was held in Mill Pond Park on September 11th.

SSVFD volunteers have a great time teaching San Saba Elementary students how to remain safe and the steps to take during the event of a fire. Students enjoyed their day too and were able to see a fire truck and brush truck up close, as well as put on some fire gear just like their heroes!

The SSHS 2021 Golden Armadillo Band went to State competition in November.

Last, but not least, and to say”Goodbye” to 2021, San Saba County residents and many tourists visited Mill Pond Park to view and enjoy the light shows of the Christmas Extravaganza. This train was one of the favorite displays.
