The Richland Springs Report

Amy Moore Beattie, granddaughter of Ruth and Glen Lewis, returned to her home in Canada. As I look at her post, compared to the posts from those in Texas, I do have to giggle. She arrived home to minus 23 degrees without much of a to-do, while here in Texas, my Face Book page has blown up with anguished posts about our 19 to 23 degrees. I happen to agree with the posts about the cold, but it’s a matter of perspective. I hate the cold, but I’m glad I’m not back in Canada facing below zero weather. I have my first fire of the season keeping me toasty.

If you have time, please check on your elderly relatives and neighbors. They may need assistance. Russ had all our plumbing put on inside walls, so we don’t ever worry about the interior breaks, but a few of our outside taps are vulnerable. I’m sure there was a scramble yesterday across the county. This is predicted to last the week, so please be careful. If you need something to keep warm, contact the churches or the fire department. Someone will be able to help you. There are also coats available for any children or adult who needs one. The food pantry is open on the first and third Mondays, but call the church if you are in need on any day.

Mr. Womack has posted notices about the upcoming events. Keep your eyes and ears open for news about the new robotics program, our new LVN and our one-on-one tech program. Things are happening in Coyote territory.

My youngest sister is finally able to escape the cold in Canada and has planted herself in sunny Florida. It will be interesting to see how she evolves. Like most good Canadians, she believes “mask up, stay safe, do what your are told no matter what the science says.” Florida may be a shock to her system. She vows to keep wearing her mask even if she is the only one. I guess that’s her choice. To me it’s a sad choice, but it’s her choice.

Brother Mack is working on the border with the Guard. He anticipates that the Omicron is going to cause problems. The cases are mounting rapidly. I’m a little confused because it seems to be more like a bad cold. I will have to do more research. I don’t think we have ever shut down for the common cold or even the flu. Since we have close to two million untested illegals crossing the country, we will reach herd immunity quickly. We must just use our common sense and be cautious.

Please pray for rain; our land needs moisture. Pray also for our country, our government, and their inability to get things done to help our economic problems. We have those in economic need and in poor health who need our prayers. Our police officers, border agents and EMT personnel need our support and prayers. Most of all pray for our precious troops and their families. Happy 2022, everyone.
