Lend A Hand

This past year, Cyndi planted some zinnias in a spot we had made in the back yard. Those were some beautiful flowers. There were a bunch of butterflies that came and spent time with them each day, fluttering around. There were all kinds and colors of flowers, and some of them grew so tall they began to lay over on the ground. These flowers needed a little help, so I fixed a way to hold them up, which worked for a while.

When you think about this, for them to grow and continually look good, help was needed. Do you realize that sometimes we all need a little help standing up. It is difficult to go through life with problem after problem causing us to bend over a little more each time.

When our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ began His ministry, He made sure that those who were having problems had them taken care of. I think of the woman who had a hemorrhage of blood for which the doctors could not find a cure. (Matthew 9:18-22) She went to many and even spent all of the money she had and was still distressed over this. When she saw Jesus coming and a crowd of people around Him, she thought, “if I only touch His garment, I will get well.” She got close enough to do that and was miraculously, instantly healed. Jesus blessed her for the faith that she had.

When a man was seen begging that had been blind since birth, Jesus opened his eyes so he could see. (John 9) He was a grown man and had never seen a tree, a flower, a sunrise or sunset. He had never seen the face of his mother and father. Could you imagine what that had to be like for him after all those years to be able see these things.

We could go through the Scriptures and continue to pick out folks that had this caring feature. Another one that stands out to me is a man named Barnabas. He sold all his possessions and gave them to the apostles to distribute to those less fortunate than himself. (Acts 4) He encouraged the apostles to accept Saul (Paul) of Tarsus as a brother and one who Jesus had chosen to preach to the Gentiles after trying to destroy the church.

That brings me down to you. Are you the person who needs to help others stand? Do you know someone who needs help? Are you willing to go out of your way to help others as they deal with their problems? Are you willing to encourage them? Pray for them? Visit them? You may be the answer to a prayer for which someone has been praying. Don’t hesitate, do it today.
