What a blessing the rain has been! I received nine-tenths of an inch on Thursday, October 1, and then more rain came Friday night and Saturday. Altogether, Bowser received about 2.8 inches wonderful and much-needed soaking.
It is amazing to see God’s handiwork on display after a good rain. Almost overnight, our countryside has gone from crispy brown to fresh, lush green. Looking out across the front pasture now, everything seems brighter and more alive. I may even have to get the lawnmower back out—and after the dry spell we’ve had, I certainly won’t complain about that!
A good rain seems to put everybody in a better mood, too. Maybe it is the cooler air, the smell of wet ground, or simply seeing green return to the countryside, but there is something about a soaking rain that lifts everyone’s spirits. The tanks catch a little water, the grass begins to perk up, the dust finally settles, and we are thankful for every drop.
The Richland Springs Vol-unteer Fire Department held its fish fry on Saturday, October 3. Unfortunately, the weather kept the turnout lower than everyone had hoped, but there were still some amazing items auctioned off in support of our local volunteer firefighters. If you were unable to attend or donate, it is certainly not too late to show your support. Someone at the Richland Springs city offices can help point you in the right direction to make a donation. Our volunteer fire department does so much for this community, and every bit of support helps them continue to be there when we need them most.
Another important date coming up is the Richland Springs ISD bond election on Tuesday, November 3. The proposed bond totals $4.5 million and is divided into Proposition A and Proposition B. Early voting begins Monday, October 19, and continues through Friday, October 30, at the San Saba County Clerk’s Office. Election Day polls will be conducted from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Take the time to make your voice heard by casting your ballot, either during early voting or on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3.
Here’s hoping everyone has a wonderful week and gets a chance to enjoy these slightly cooler temperatures and our newly green countryside. Take a little time to enjoy the simple things—a cool morning, a little sunshine after the rain, and the beauty that surrounds us here at home. Have a blessed week and enjoy every bit of this beautiful fall weather.
