Who Can You Trust?

“You can trust me!” were the words that were spoken. And so, he did. And then, sometime later, the one that was trusted “let you down.” They disappointed you by betraying a confidence you had given to them. This is a scenario that takes place every day. It may be a politician trying to get elected who, after they take office, they forget they had made that promise. It could be a coworker, a classmate; it could be anyone.

That’s the way it is, sadly, with mortal men. Promises are made, sometimes with every intention of keeping them. But then, they were broken, and the hurt runs deep. Sometimes the intentions were never meant to be kept, but the one trusting did not know this truth.

In the spiritual realm, our God has made many promises. In Genesis 3:15, He promised a Savior would come into the world. We read in the New Testament of Jesus' coming as the Savior of the world. In Genesis 6-8, God promised Noah that he would be spared when a flood covered the whole earth. We see that God kept His promise. In Genesis 12, He promised Abraham that he would receive a certain land that (we know today as Israel) would belong to his descendants. We look at the book of Joshua to note that this was another promise that was kept. Today, you and I can know that anything God promised in the Scriptures, He will keep. None ever failed, and none ever will.

But also note that there was always something that man had to do. Man had to have faith, trust in God that He would perform what He said He would do. Did you see that Noah had to build an ark? And he had to build it according to the specifications that God gave him. If he had failed in any part, he would not have been saved.

Also, Abraham had to leave his country and go to a land he did not know, couldn’t speak the language, separate from his parents and all other family (except Lot and his family who journeyed with him). We must have an active faith, and it must trust that God will deliver what He said He would do.

Solomon wrote in Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” There are many passages in the Bible that show that God always kept His promises when people were obedient to and trusted Him.

Today, we must trust in God. We do not trust in wealth, power, family, allies, abilities, etc., but our trust must be in God. So, who are you trusting in? If not God, it’s time to turn loose and trust Him.
