Beginning its 85th year on Tuesday, September 7th, at 2:00 p.m., the San Saba Garden Club (SSGC) will host its first 2021-2022 meeting in the historic Old Mill Pond Park building across from the San Saba Mill Pond and waterfall. Debbie Shahan, newly elected President, will welcome the group to a pleasant time of fun, fellowship, and great refreshments! Interested visitors are welcome!
The Club, with 30 active members (including nine new members), three associate members, and four emeritus members, is justly proud of its motto: “Not for ourselves, but for others!,” and its Creed: “I believe in my community.

All members, new and returning, are welcomed for interesting programs, refreshments, and enjoyable service projects! The Club's theme for the new year is “Plant America…Enjoy the Journey!”
Various planned programs during the year will include history of the Club and the Old Mill Pond building, home and ranch garden tours, visits to interesting sites including gardens in Weatherford, Texas, plans for effective weed control, cooking with herbs, and various craft activities such as making garden stepping stones.
SSGC is a dynamic organization which has won many awards including those of the District V Garden Club, as well as the State of Texas Garden Club for a variety of activities including the State's First Place Yearbook, and initiating projects to assist youth in learning about pollinators, conservation, and nature. San SSGC's community activities include: maintaining the Club’s attractive display cart and the Old Mill Pond building, providing scholarships for SSISD seniors, conducting the Spring Tea for the local nursing home, maintaining area flower gardens and the pollinator garden at the SSISD elementary school, plus working with Keep San Saba Beautiful to conduct the Kids’ Nature Kamp every summer! A record number of 35 elementary aged children enrolled in the 6th Annual Nature Kamp in June, 2021, where SSGC members and other community members, worked with the children’s groups directing fun nature learning activities in and around the club house and nearby parks.
