The San Saba High School varsity football team was in action on Friday, August 20, for a home scrimmage at Rogan Field vs. San Angelo Texas Leadership Charter Academy. Both the Armadillos and visiting Eagles got their players plenty of valuable reps on offense and defense in anticipation of the regular season opening up this week.
Under third-year head coach Andreas Aguirre, this up-and-coming San Saba team will look to build on its 8-3 record from 2020 and hopefully make a deep run in the 2A-1 playoffs.
The Dillos varsity squad will travel at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 27, to battle with the Eagles of Eldorado High School in the opener for both teams. San Saba will look to come out victorious again after last season’s 56-14 blowout win over Eldorado at home.
As the No. 17 ranked team in Dave Campbell’s Texas Football preseason poll for 2A-1, the Dillos have some big shoes to fill and expect to move up higher in the rankings as the 2021 season goes on.
Also in action for the other San Saba County teams on August 27, will be Richland Springs High School visiting Marble Falls Faith Academy and Cherokee High School on the road at Medina High School. Both contests are set to kick off at 7 p.m.
