Lackey, Capps named to west Texas football watchlist

Two incoming seniors for both San Saba High School and Richland Springs High School varsity football were recently named to a San Angelo Standard-Times Top-10 preseason watchlist at the running back position.

Wesley Lackey - Senior, San Saba

During his 2020 junior season, Wesley Lackey was a great change-of-pace running back that helped propel the San Saba offense under head coach Andreas Aguirre. While Dillos senior running back Stone Sears was a bruising running back on the ground, Lackey was much more elusive and is likely to get the bulk of the carries in 2021. In 10 games, Lackey averaged a whopping 8.0 yards per carry with 86 touches for 676 yards and seven total touchdowns.

Zane Capps - Senior, Richland Springs

A speedy all-around player during the Coyotes’ run to the 1A Division 2 Championship game, Zane Capps was a touchdown machine throughout 2020. Capps had 421 yards rushing and eight scores on the ground while also hauling in 26 catches for 399 yards and 11 receiving touchdowns. Expect Capps again to be a major factor in the Coyotes’ hopes to bring yet another 6-Man championship back to Richland Springs.
