CTX Fieldhouse in Buda, Texas, was the site of the 2021 Five Star Summer Showcase held on Saturday June 26. With all teams being in mid-summer season form, MOE Basketball would be stepping on to the court for the first time this summer. To add more pressure to this first time outing, MOE Basketball would be looking for their sixth “consecutive” Five Star Summer Showcase tournament championship, their seventh in the last eight years, First Round: MOE Basketball 31, CTX Lady Knights 16.
As expected, a sluggish start by MOE would only have them up 10-2 at halftime. Led by Cinzlea Stanton’s 9 points in the second half, MOE would finally get into a good fastbreak rhythm and score 21 points in the second half to pull away with a 31-16 win. All team members scored with Stanton leading the way with 9 points, Henlee Wagner 8 points, Kate Lengefeld 4 points, Addison Massingill and Aaliyah Patino with 3 points each, Ema Argote and Amber Bridges with 2 points each.
Second Round: MOE Basketball 55, Central Texas United 15.
An 8 point first half by Cinzlea Stanton would help MOE get a comfortable 25-2 halftime lead. Amber Bridges and Henlee Wagner would score 9 points each in the second half as MOE would roll to a 55-15 win. All team members would score led by Stanton and Wagner with 12 points each, Bridges with 9 points, Ema Argote with 8 points, Kate Lengefeld and Aaliyah Patino with 6 points each, and Addison Massingill with 2 points.
Championship: MOE Basketball 37, Infinity Hoops 25. Infinity Hoops would dominate their way to the championship round by relying on their 5’10” post player, and she would be a problem for MOE in the first half. MOE would have a slight 15-12 lead at halftime led by Cinzlea Stantons' 7 points. Infinity Hoops would go on a 5 point run to tie the score at 17 all early in the second half and force MOE to take a quick timeout to stop their momentum and make some quick adjustments. All of Infinity Hoops' points would come from in or near the lane. A halftime adjustment to a 2-3 Zone and doubling down on their top player would force them to take some outside shots which they could not convert allowing MOE to go on an 6 point fastbreak run off those misses and take the lead for the rest of the game and claim their sixth “consecutive” Five Star Summer Showcase championship with a 37-25 win. Once again, all team members would score led by Stanton with 10 points, Henlee Wagner 8 points, Kate Lengefeld 6 points, Aaliyah Patino 5 points, Addison Massingill 4 points, and Ema Argote and Amber Bridges with 2 points each. MOE Basketball has captured 7 of the last 8 Five Star Summer Showcase championships since its inception in 2012. Next up for MOE Basketball will be a trip to Georgetown, Texas, to take part in the TWE Summer Splash on July 10.
