The San Saba High School boys and girls varsity track and field teams competed very well on Wednesday, April 7th, at the District 29-2A Championship meet hosted by San Saba. With athletes needing a fourth-place or better finish in their respective events to qualify for the upcoming area meet, schools also in attendance were Center Point High School, Harper High School, Johnson City High School, Junction High School, and Mason High School.
San Saba Dillos Varsity
For the boys, the Dillos varsity squad had two firstplace individual finishers in track events: Logan Glover in the 200-meter dash at 22.61 seconds and Tyler Johnson in the 300-meter hurdles at 45.20 seconds.
Also placing highly and qualifying for the area meet were Wesley Lackey in the 100-meter dash in second place at 11.16 seconds, Julius Salinas in third place in the 1,600-meter run at 5:15.89, and Everett Eidson in fourth place in the 3,200-meter run at 11:58.14.
Both the Dillos’ boys 4x100-meter relay team and 4x200-meter relay teams qualified for area in second place, while the 4x400-meter team placed in third. Runners on the relay teams were Glover, Lackey, Reagan Mejia, Stone Sears, Drake Bryant, Franco Franco, and Justin Yarbrough.
Sears was the boys’ lone first-place finisher in the field events with a great leap of 20’11.00” in the long jump, while Mejia and Landin Short both placed second in the high jump and shot put, respectively.
San Saba Lady Dillos Varsity
Of only the eight varsity Lady Dillos entered in the district meet last week, six of them qualified for area in more than one of their respective track and field events.
Courtnee Cash placed first in three of her individual events: 12.49 seconds in the 100-meter dash, 17’00.00” in the long jump, and 35’09.00” in the triple jump.
Brighton Adams also had two first-place and one second-place finish in individual events: first in the 200-meter dash at 26.58 seconds, first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.01, and second in the long jump with a 16’09.50” mark.
In the 4x100-meter and 4x200-meter relay races, the Lady Dillos placed in second and third with runners Cash, Leslie Aguirre, Lexy Amthor, Landri Glover, and Jenna Lambert competing.
Up next on their 2021 postseason schedule, the Dillos and Lady Dillos varsity squads will travel and compete in the 2A area meet on Wednesday, April 14 hosted by Harper High School.
