Short places first at Boys State Powerlifting Meet

The San Saba High School boys varsity powerlifting team had a great showing on Saturday, March 27, at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association Division 3 State Meet held at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene.

For the first time in 13 years, the Dillos now have an individual state champion in powerlifting as Landin Short was victorious in the 220-pound class with a whopping 1,600 total pounds lifted: 600 pounds on the squat, 385 pounds on the bench press, and 615 pounds on the deadlift.

For the 165-pound class, Gilberto Baez was also outstanding as the runner-up and placed second with a total of

1,360 pounds lifted: 515 on the squat, 295 on the bench press, and 550 pounds on the deadlift.

Landon Yarborough placed ninth in the 198-pound class with 1,070 total pounds lifted, while Adan Huron and Brenden Peel placed ninth and 10th in the 132-pound class with 835 and 805 total pounds lifted, respectively.
