Message from Dr. Craig Whiting:
There are three COVID vaccines available in the United States as of today and each has its own characteristics, but all have been shown to be safe and effective for preventing a serious infection with COVID-19. To date, over 125 million people in the US have received one of the vaccines, and for those who have been vaccinated, none has had a severe, life-threatening COVID infection. There is a lot of false information about the vaccines available on social media which has caused skepticism about receiving the vaccines, but careful research from reputable sources such as the Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins, the CDC or even WebMD (which generally has very good information) will show that the vaccine is very safe. It is also very effective; the questions that will only be answered with time are how long the protection lasts and whether there are variants against which the vaccines may not be as effective.
The COVID vaccine is now available in San Saba County at multiple places. The Baylor Scott & White clinic is providing its patients the Moderna vaccine by appointment (call 325-372-5163) and Everett’s Pharmacy has the Janssen vaccine by appointment (call 325-372-3033). In addition, the County is working with the State Health Department to offer vaccine (initially Moderna) at weekend clinics (call Marsha Hardy at 325-372-8570 for appointment). There is no cost to anyone to receive the vaccine at any of these sites.
The demand for COVID testing is much less in our County now, but the free testing will continue weekly, however, on a reduced schedule. As always, check Marsha Hardy’s Emergency Management Facebook page for dates and location of the testing.
Reminder from Marsha Hardy:
