You Are Important

They are one of God’s creatures. They are tiny, but watching them gives us great pleasure. What are they? Hummingbirds. My mother-in-law loved these, and on our front porch we have one of her feeders. They sit on the feeder and drink the nectar from it. As a matter of fact, the few birds we have seen on them can empty a feeder in less than a week.

Even though these birds are “tiny,” they are very determined. They have been known to get in a fight with one another (or so it seems) occasionally. The are bold and courageous even though they are not very big.

As Christians, there may be times that we think we have little value. It may seem as if no one cares about us. There may even be an emptiness inside us that hurts. But we must always realize that we are God’s creatures, too. And as one of God’s creatures, we are important.

Before Moses was led to Mount Nebo and God buried him, he told the Israelites, “Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the LORD your God is the One who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you." Deuteronomy 31:6 (NASB) What encouraging words! To know and realize that God will never forsake us should lift our spirits immensely.

These words were used again in the last chapter of the book of Hebrews when the writer said, “...for He Himself has said, ‘I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you,’ 6 so that we confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What will man do to me?’” Hebrews 13:5b-6 When I am faithful to my God, I can be assured of this promise that He has made.

Watching the small hummingbird is fun. Knowing God is aware of their movements is awesome. Note these words, “Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?” Matthew 6:26 If God cares about the birds, don’t you think that He cares for and is even more concerned about you? Are you not worth more than the birds? Definitely!

Let’s make sure we are trying our best to live for God knowing He is watching, caring for and loving His creatures.
