The Richland Springs junior high athletic teams continue to work hard as the fall season moves forward, with the Lady Coyotes gaining valuable experience on the volleyball court and the Coyotes picking up their first football victory of the season.
The Jr. High Lady Coyotes faced Zephyr in their most recent volleyball match. Although Richland Springs came up short, the young Lady Coyotes continue to compete and improve with each opportunity on the court. Throughout the season, the team has worked on building confi-dence, improving its skills, and learning to play together.
At the junior high level, each match provides an opportunity for growth, and the experience the Lady Coyotes are gaining now will help them as they continue through the program. Richland Springs will have a bye this week before returning to volleyball action.
On the football field, the Jr. High Coyotes earned their first win of the season in impressive fashion, traveling to Abilene and defeating Abilene Christian 52-14.
Richland Springs took control early and carried a 36-8 lead into halftime. The Coyotes continued their strong play in the second half, finishing off the 38-point victory and giving the team momentum heading into district competition.
The Coyotes will look to build on that performance when they open district play Thursday evening at home against the Cherokee Indians. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Coyote Field.
It will be a quieter week for the Lady Coyotes with their open date, while the Jr. High Coyotes will take center stage Thursday night as they look to start district play with another strong performance.
