Shari Charlene Brister

Shari Charlene Brister, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, peacefully departed this world on October 3, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on January 6, 1938, in Austin, Texas, Charlene was the cherished daughter of Wayland E.B. Feaster and Jewel Etoyah Sluyter.

Charlene’s life was a testament to love, service, and dedication. She devoted 27 years to a fulfilling career at Southwestern Bell Telephone, where she not only excelled in her role but also served as a union steward, advocating for her colleagues with determination and integrity. Her sense of responsibility extended beyond her professional life as she became a devoted caregiver to her husband A.J. Simpson, until his passing in August 1994.

Her commitment to helping others manifested in her community involvement. Charlene was a nurturing presence in the lives of many young girls, serving as a leader in the Brownies, Junior Girl Scouts, and Senior Girl Scouts. Her passion for advocacy led her to volunteer as a Court-Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), where she worked tirelessly to support children in need.

Charlene’s heart was filled with love for her family. She was the devoted wife of Jackie Brister, with whom she shared 30 years of love and companionship. Her daughters, Penny Jo Vasek, Shari and Steve Raesz, Marilyn Brister and Carl Adams, and her sons, Gene and Janet Brister, Michael and Gennifer Brister, were the pride and joy of her life. Her nurturing spirit extended to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with whom she shared her love of cooking, notably winning awards for her delectable pecan pies.

A compassionate and caring soul, Charlene was predeceased by her parents, and family members A.J. Simpson and Connie Waylene Campbell. She leaves behind a legacy of love and is survived by her brother, Andy and Gwen Feaster; her niece, Sidonie Thornton; and a large, loving family of grandchildren and greatgrandchildren who will continue to honor her memory.

Charlene’s life was enriched by her love for family, her community, and her passion for living life to the fullest. Her legacy is carried on by her grandchildren: Bonnie Benningfield, Bryan Benningfield, Samantha and Cody Anderson, Kodi Sisk, Zachary and Samantha Jill Vasek, Elizabeth Adams and Joe Tamez, Blain and Kayla Adams, Ryan and Madeline Brister, Lauren and Joe Rodriguez, Dillon and Dean Brister, Scott and Irene Krzywonski, Brianna Dovi, Josh Perry, Sara Perry, Cheryl and Joe Halley, Danne’and Hobie O'Connor; and her great-grandchildren: Layla and Hayden Faul, Ryker Clark, Jacklyn and Tiana Tamez, Cason and Kali Adams, Joe (Tres) and Gracelyn Rodriguez, Peyton and Hudson Halley, Palmer and Merrick O'Connor.

In honor of Charlene’s generous spirit, the family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Her selflessness and warmth will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Charlene Brister will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever illuminate the hearts of those she touched.
