The Richland Springs Report

Praise the Lord; I had a little over four inches of rain by Sunday afternoon. It wasn’t just the amount of rain, but the way it came down. It was so steady and consistent that my road wasn’t damaged at all.

My grandson and his family came down prepared to do some outdoor hiking at Gorman Falls and Enchanted Rock. Despite the rain, they had a wonderful time. The rain brought back memories of late spring and early fall rains in Canada. I used to love to walk in the cool light rain. Russ thought I was a little crazy walking around the farm in the rain without a raincoat, but it felt wonderful.

Rain or shine, the annual Volunteer Fire Department Fish fry goes on the first Saturday of October. The rain did not stop members of the community from showing up to support our volunteers.

The fire department responded to smoke at the school last week. A faulty HVAC unit was the culprit. This same unit caused problems last year. This is one of the issues to be covered by the bond proposal.

School was cancelled last week due to the lack of electricity in town. Oncor brought the power up as quickly as possible, but it was too late to have school. That means somewhere down the line, they will have a bad weather make-up day.

The lady Coyotes defeated Brookesmith in three straight sets and increased their district lead to 3-1. Congratulations, ladies. Their next game is on the 10th at Rochelle. Next week, all three games will be home games. Please come and fill up the stands.

Jaspur Farris continues to represent our Coyotes well. He rides with his college team and recently won the short round at Uvalde and third in the average. Way to go, Spur. We are proud of you.

Wednesday the 7th, the fifth grade will attend Farm Safety Day, and 6-12 will attend a fentanyl awareness event. Junior high football players will play Cherokee at home on the 8th. Then, many of our fans will head to Cherokee to support our varsity boys on the 9th. Mrs. James reported that all district games would have a theme. The theme for Cherokee is Wild West Showdown. The theme for the Brookesmith game is Beach Bash.

The Community Potluck Dinner will be this Sunday. Come one come all. Dishes can be brought before church. The doors will be open by 9:30 am and the meal will be ready from 11:30 until 1:00 pm. This is a wonderful time of fellowship and tasty food.

Many happy returns to Bob McLean. Bob is a proud supporter of Richland Springs.

Please remember the October 7th survivors of the Hamas massacre last year. Pray for the ongoing wars and peace in Ukraine and Iran. We have several community members working through cancer including my son-in-law, Mark. It’s a terrible disease for the patient and the family. Praise God for the rain. Don’t forget to vote next month. Do your research and vote for the party that meets your standards. The RSISD bond will also be on the ballot. If you’re not sure about the details, find a board member to explain before you make your choice. Be an Informed Voter. Have a fun week, everyone.
