Last week, our Cherokee Indians football teams faced Cranfills Gap. Junior high traveled there on Thursday and won 49-12. High school played hard and came out on top as well with a big win, ending the game at half time due to the 45 point rule.
Our little Indians football team played Menard in Mason last Saturday. It was a very hot day! The little Indians improved so much from the week before, the final score was Indians 20 Menard 41. We are very proud of their progress and learning of this new sport. Next week, the little Indians play in Brady as they take on the Brady Bulldogs Saturday at 1 p.m.
On Friday, September 18, several members of the Warren Randolph Chapter of the National Honor Society at Cherokee ISD washed trucks for the Cherokee Volunteer Fire Department. Volunteers included Taylor Randolph, Lily Graves, Preslee Duggan, Morgan Palermo, Ella Owen, and Marley Huron. Members will clean the remaining vehicles this Friday in preparation for the Cherokee VFD Fish Fry & BBQ Fundraiser on Saturday, September 26, from 6 - 8 p.m. Please come out and support our amazing local VFD.
We also had a visit from the mobile STEM lab. Each grade level or grade level group was able to select a STEM project to complete in the lab. It was truly impressive! The teachers were thorough and engaging. It was very well organized, and the kids LOVED IT! Later in the evening, we invited families and community members to come experience a STEM competition. We were tasked with building a house for one of the three little pigs. The pig had to fit inside. It had to be a two-story house and have a working door. It also had to withstand the wind from the Big Bad Wolf. Groups had to work together to create a plan and execute it, making changes along the way. They also had to “purchase” supplies, so they had to prioritize, budget, and use basic math skills. Overall, it was a really fun educational experience.
