For the third consecutive year, San Saba ISD's visual arts program has been named a 2026 District of Distinction by the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA), placing the district among an elite group of Texas school systems recognized for excellence in art education.
TAEA announced this year's honorees earlier this summer, naming roughly 100 districts out of more than 1,200 eligible statewide — putting San Saba's art program in the top tier of visual arts education in Texas. To earn the distinction, districts must submit documentation showing how their programs measure up against TAEA's comprehensive 14-point rubric, which evaluates student participation in competitions such as VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event), community engagement, exhibition opportunities, field experiences, student leadership, and ongoing advocacy for the arts.
Monica Shahan, San Saba High School principal, stated, “Earning the TAEA District of Distinction designation places San Saba ISD among an elite group of Texas school districts recognized for excellence in visual arts education. This honor celebrates the outstanding work of our art teachers and students and reinforces our commitment to providing enriching, creative experiences that prepare students to think critically, communicate creatively, and contribute meaningfully to their community.”
