Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Stewart of Meridian have bought the Mrs. Mattie Starnes cottage on West Wallace St. and will make San Saba their home. Mr. Stewart has opened offices in part of the Martin Building and will be in charge of the Brady-San Saba Soil Conservation for this county.
Mrs. A. J. Duncan received a message from the J. F. Gibsons and mother stating they took the hurricane warning message and fled from Baytown with a great many more and went into Bandera to the home of Mrs. Lee. So many of their friends were anxious about their safety.
Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Crain of Eldorado had the misfortune to lose their gin by fire after ginning their first two bales of cotton. The Crains have lived in Eldorado for 16 years and have an interest in the Ralls gin.
Mrs. Ruth Harbuck has received her Bachelor of Science degree from North Texas State Teachers College with the highest honors of her class. Mrs. Harbuck has been a teacher in the local public schools for many years.
Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Brice received a cablegram stating that her brother, Sgt. I. A. White, had been freed from a Japanese prisoner of war camp. He had been a prisoner since the fall of Bataan.
60 Years Ago September 8, 1966
Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Hugh Saxon of Lubbock spent a week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. T. Saxon. Also visiting with them was Mrs. Thurman Hugh Saxon's brother, Kenny McMillan, who was enroute to Houston where he will attend University of Houston.
Charley Cook will be teaching science courses at Brownwood School this year, along with a full load at Howard Payne College.
Dove season is on but hear very little shooting in this neck of the woods as doves are very scattered.
Burglars broke into Thomas Wilton's lumber yard at Richland Springs taking several rolls of wire, steel post, and other items, according to Sheriff Brantley Barker.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. (Bobby) Ray of Austin announce the birth of a daughter, Robin Lynne, in St. David's Hospital. She weighed six pounds, five and one half ounces. The mother is the former Miss Lynette Dittmar. Ray, is a San Saba High School graduate.
Mr. and Mrs. John Barina and babies spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Barina. John, who was recently discharged from the Air Force, was enroute to San Angelo where he will enter college.
