Foundation poured, opening date set for November 1st

Shane Moore, Code Enforcement Officer, visited the news office on Monday to give an update on the new O’Reilly Auto Parts store coming to San Saba.

General Contractor Arnold Sanchez reports the store is set to open November 1st. Mr. Sanchez is from Corpus Christi and works for Ron Sparks Incorporated out of Forney, Texas. Even though the crew working on the new building project are not local, they will be eating here and sometimes visiting our local stores as needs arise. That will be a good boost to our local economy.

The O’Reilly Auto Parts store will have an entrance on Wallace Street and on Brown Street; their driveway will go all the way through to both streets. Even though there will be that back entrance on Brown Street, I was assured that trucks entering the parking lot to bring new merchandise would only use the front entrance.

The foundation, which is two feet into the ground, was poured last week. They built the forms this past weekend, and the slab was poured Monday morning. The crew started about 4 a.m. due to the extreme heat during the day. Mr. Moore said once the temperature hits around 80o, the concrete starts hardening.

While the crew was digging for the foundation preparation, they found a natural spring. They excavated eight feet down and saw water. They at first thought it was coming from Mr. Jacobs’ property next door, but it was coming from their side of the property line. The crew had to put in a French drain that would direct the water into the field behind Dairy Queen. That is also part of the land they purchased. The water is draining extremely slowly and should not puddle.

The discovery of the spring did not change their building plans except for the addition of the French drain, and it should not delay the opening.

A manger from another O’Reilly Auto Parts store will be here to run the store initially.

More information will be given as it is provided to the San Saba News.
