Wow! It is hard to believe that we are about to start a new school year. Teachers return to school this Wednesday, July 29th, meet the teacher is Monday, August 3rd, and students officially return on Wednesday, August 5th. It is also important to note that while we usually do not have school on Fridays, we WILL have school Friday, August 7th.
A new year brings new ideas, fresh starts, and new staff! This year we are welcoming Cherokee alumni Kendall Johnson and Isaac Graves to our staff. Ms. Johnson will be teaching high school English and Mr. Graves will be a paraprofessional. Ashley McKneely will also be a paraprofessional this year. She has been a substitute teacher with us for a couple of years and we are excited to welcome her into this full time position. Mrs. Brooke Beck and Mrs. Shannon Padgett will be in new roles this year. Mrs. Beck will teach 3rd-5th social studies and science, while Mrs. Padgett will be teaching 3rd-5th math.
Over the summer, we hosted a 4th of July celebration complete with a parade, water slides, blitz ball, lawn games, a fajita meal, and a fireworks show. Thank you to everyone who made our Independence Day celebration a success! If there was something you would have liked to see at this event, please come to our August 11th PTC meeting at 4:45 in the cafeteria. Because our community is small, we need everyone’s help to put on events such as this. We have big plans for this school year and would love to see more people involved in our PTC.
It’s going to be a great year at Cherokee ISD!
