I remember the time our grandchildren visited us. And they were very helpful. One day my grandson and I came in from the sheep pens for lunch, and as we entered the house, my wife was talking to my granddaughter who was sitting on the couch. She asked her if she had finished the job she was assigned, and my granddaughter said, “No.” My wife went on to ask her if she heard her and she replied, “Yes.” My wife went on to tell her it was wrong to hear and not do what you are asked as that was disobedience. My granddaughter jumped up and finished setting the table.
That incident reminds me of something in the Bible. We are all held accountable to God for our actions. Adam and Eve knew they were not supposed to eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil and they did anyway, and it cost them plenty.
Genesis 2:16-17 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” (See also Genesis 3:1-7) Knowing God’s Word is necessary and important, but it is not
enough. We must be willing to apply it or obey.
Jude 5, 6, 10 Now I want to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that Jesus, who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. 6 And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day— 10 But these people blaspheme all that they do not understand, and they are destroyed by all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively.
We may know the Bible from front to back, but if we do not obey, it is of no benefit.
Titus 1:16 They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work.
We must first confess our sins, ask God to forgive, and call upon Jesus Christ to be our Lord and Savior is where we must start. (See John 3:1-10) John 3:16-19 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. 19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.
