Elm Grove Echoes

At Bowser, we were blessed with 3.7 inches of rain last week, and what a difference it has made! The pastures, trees, and gardens have all greened up beautifully, making everything look especially lush for this time of year. While the Texas summer heat is certainly here, it's a welcome sight to see so much green still surrounding us. We continue to be thankful for every shower the Lord sends our way.

The monthly quilting marathon at RS First Baptist Church was another wonderful success. The Graceful Quilters gathered Monday through Thursday for four full days of quilting, fellowship, laughter, and plenty of hard work. Several of us even stayed late into the evening to finish a few special projects. There is something so rewarding about seeing a quilt come together stitch by stitch, especially when it is being made with love. I'm currently working on a quilt for my tenth grandchild, Warren Hayes, the son of my son, Kal, a proud Richland Springs High School Class of 2009 graduate. I can't wait to wrap Warren in a quilt made especially for him.

Summer always seems to pass more quickly than we expect. It's a season filled with family gatherings, vacations, church camps, county fairs, and making memories with grandchildren. Before long, backpacks will replace beach bags, school buses will be back on the roads, and classrooms will once again be filled with eager students. As another school year approaches, let's remember to pray for our teachers, administrators, school staff, and students as they prepare for a year of learning, growth, and new opportunities. May it be a safe, successful, and rewarding year for everyone. GO COYOTES!

One young lady who has made me especially proud this summer is my granddaughter, Zoey, another of Kal's children. Zoey has truly developed a heart for serving others. Nearly every Friday, she volunteers alongside me delivering Meals on Wheels in Early, Texas, often joined by her little sister, Finley, and little brother, Warren. The very first time she climbed into my car to help with our route, she absolutely melted my heart when she quietly told me she had prayed for every person we would visit that day—that they would feel better and that they would enjoy the meals we were delivering. That's the kind of compassion you simply can't teach. She has also volunteered with the Richland Springs Summer Food Program, the San Saba Backpack and School Supply Giveaway, and the San Saba Food Bank. Watching Zoey discover the joy that comes from serving others has been one of the greatest blessings of my summer, and she has become quite the community-minded young lady.
