Your column this week comes from cool Canada. I wasn’t sure what to expect since they were experiencing a heat wave that left them with Texas temperatures, It appears that I have turned the tide, and I can cool off a little. This morning woke up to 56 degrees and windy. It has turned into beautiful summer Canadian day. The rain and winds created havoc on Dave and Dee’s trees. A giant pine tree crashed and hit the road, I’m excited that I can be here to be a part of my niece Suzie’s birthday and also, my great-niece Ashley’s wedding. When she has her baby, I will be a great-great aunt. We all know I will be a great, great-aunt! The wedding takes place on Saturday here at the lake house. Dave and Dee have been preparing their property to host 100 guests. There are eight trailers, ten tents and several bunkies to house the guests. It should be a wonderful event. Ashley, my petite hundred pound sweetie, shot the moose for the wedding dinner. According to Dave, she is a better shot than her two brothers.
I hope all of our students made it to the distribution center for school supplies on Saturday. I expect to see many brand new hoodies, shoes, and back packs. The church still has food for distribution if there is any family in need. Please remember that the Howler’s Club, First Baptist, and Shiloh have volunteered to provide school supplies to help parents. Our community is dedicated to the success of our students. Just think, school is just around the corner. It seems as if summer has disappeared. I can hear kids crying here in Canada.
I had one of my favorite foods yesterday, St. Hubert Barbeque. I can’t compare it to anything in our area because it is unique. I haven’t had poutine yet, or Montreal smoked meat. There are a few others that need my money. Time permitting, I will find them.
I saw my first loon this morning. I feel at peace with the world when I hear that beautiful, haunting cry drift over the lake waters.
I can’t give you much town news; I know Miss Bea needs our prayers, Elizabeth Johnson as well. Pray for our country, the wars, and peace around the world. Stay cool everyone, Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families.
