Dads, Children and Fishing

Next Sunday, June 21st, will be Father’s Day. I remember the time a group of fathers took their children camping and fishing. It was a special treat for them to be together. Yes, it was crowded, and some slept outside while others were on the floor. It was very interesting but especially fun at mealtimes.

One thing that stood out was the small children spending time with their dads. As we sat around talking, there were always children about. They might be sitting in their dad’s lap or next to them.

I was so impressed with the dads that were in our camp as they were trying to set Godly examples for their children.

Deuteronomy 4:9-10 “Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children's children— 10 how on the day that you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb, the Lord said to me, ‘Gather the people to me, that I may let them hear my words, so that they may learn to fear me all the days that they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children so.’...

It is a big responsibility being a dad and trying to have a Christian home and family.

Proverbs 20:7 The righteous who walks in his integrity— blessed are his children after him!

Ephesians 6:1-4 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), 3 “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” 4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

They might not be at the top of the ladder financially or the top golfer or pro bass fisherman, but they have given themselves to and for their family. Lift them up in prayer because they go to work, day after day trying to provide for their family, and many times the working environments and conditions are not pleasant.

1 John 5:19 We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

Satan will work extra hard to defeat a husband or father because it affects so many.

Matthew 12:29 Or how can someone enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? Then indeed he may plunder his house.

Luke 11:21 When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are safe;...

John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

Next Sunday will be Father’s Day, and let us remember them.

See you in Church next Sunday.
