This coming Sunday is Mother's Day

Hanging on our dining room wall is a little plate that is over 30 plus years old. It was given to my wife for Mother’s Day by one of our children. My wife is not too sentimental about little gifts, but I can assure you she is about that little plate.

It is faded and hard to read. It has a hand drawn picture of our house with two trees and two little flowers. The words read, “Mommy I hope you have a happy Mother’s Day.”

Mothers are a very special gift from God for the family.

They have shown us that special love, unconditional and sacrificial, time and time again just as God has shown us His special love.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Romans 5:8 ... but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Psalm 36:5-7 Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. 6 Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; your judgments are like the great deep; man and beast you save, O Lord. 7 How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.

We are to show our mothers love and respect, ( Exodus 20:12 Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.) just as we are to love and respect God, ( Deuteronomy 6:5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.).

Not just this week - but every week, make sure that we honor mothers and wives as they should be. We could call or send a card or flowers or take them to dinner or go visit them. It may not be our mother but a stepmother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother or just someone that is special in our life.

We could offer up a prayer of thanksgiving to God for them. We might go to Church with them or take them to Church with us. Just don’t forget them!

See you in Church this Sunday.
