SSGC names Yard of the Month

The San Saba Garden Club is pleased to recognize William and Joan Hunt of 101 West Dry Street as the latest Yard of the Month honorees. Both lifelong residents of the area, the Hunts have created a welcoming and thoughtfully designed outdoor space that reflects years of care and creativity.

What began 19 years ago as a nearly blank canvas—aside from a single cactus bed—has evolved into a series of inviting activity zones, developed over time by Joan and her daughter. The front porch, with its cushioned settee and bentwood rockers, overlooks a neatly manicured lawn, offering a comfortable place to relax and visit.

On the west end of the property, a covered grilling and dining area provides a gathering space for family and friends, while a shaded gravel seating and birdwatching area offers a quieter retreat.

Feeding the birds is one of William’s favorite pastimes, and the space reflects his enjoyment of the outdoors.

Joan describes her planting style simply: “A variety!” True to that spirit, the yard features Boston and Queen ferns, yellow and orange mandevilla, strawberry plants, hibiscus, rosemary, and gold dust, with plantings that change and evolve with the seasons.

The San Saba Garden Club congratulates the Hunts and thanks them for contributing to the beauty and charm of the community.
