The Richland Springs Report

Just like that, April is done, and we are in the last month of school. The kids have one last test to take on Wednesday. Usually, social studies is the last test, but all math students will complete the STAAR series. I wish we could get the results back within two weeks, but for some reason, even though the test is online and graded immediately, they take weeks to grade a few shortanswer questions. I pray our students will all do well. People claim we are a sports-only school, but we carry a B average. We have a half dozen students competing at state UIL Academics. We are a proud little school.

Congratulations to the senior class on an outstanding roping event. They had many auction items. I can attest to the fact that the hamburgers were mouthwatering good. Thank you to everyone who assisted in making this an enormous success. We have a super community.

Our track boys are headed to regionals on May 1st and 2nd. Congratulations to Evan and Ethan Deeds, Layne Ward, Cohen Ethridge and Brice Roesler. The GT class has an upcoming field trip this next week. The state tennis meet is on May 7th in San Antonio. May 7th is also the day of the 8th grade luncheon at the First Baptist Church.

Mother’s Day weekend is a busy time in Richland Springs. The annual Alumni Banquet will be on May 9th. This is a commemorative year: 1926-2026. The first 100 guests will be given a coin to mark the event. Don’t forget to honor your mom on Sunday May 10th. Monday, May 11th, will be a regular school day since we must make up for a snow day. It will also be field day for elementary. May 13th is the Senior luncheon at the First Baptist Church.

Mark your calendars for Sunday, May17th, for the annual Mondo Garcia’s fish fry. The week of May 18-22 is a mad house of events. First Baptist’s Kids Church will suspend activities for the summer this week. I know there is a science fair planned as well as a volcano day and splash day. All this takes time, but school is not over yet.

Please pray for the return of civil discourse in our country. All this hate rhetoric causes people who are easily influenced to do horrible things such as what happened this weekend. We must get back to debating not hating. Please pray for peace around the world, for our Congress, and for our law enforcement officers. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families. Have a blessed week.
