San Saba County Friends of Animals is already in overload mode even though the new shelter has not officially opened. The organization currently has 10 adult dogs in care along with 21 newborn puppies, with six more puppies on a waitlist waiting to come into care as soon as space becomes available. In addition, there are seven cats and one pregnant mother cat being cared for at this time.
With numbers continuing to grow, the rescue is already in crisis mode and asking the community for help. Volunteers are needed as soon as possible to help care for animals, assist with daily chores, and help finish work on the shelter building. The group also needs people who are handy to help put together dog kennels, assemble cat condos, and complete small projects around the shelter such as sheetrock, concrete work and plumbing.
Donations of sheets, blankets, and other supplies are also needed to help care for the growing number of animals.
San Saba County Friends of Animals reminds the public that rescues everywhere are overwhelmed and asks pet owners to spay and neuter their animals to help reduce the number of unwanted litters. The organization also encourages people to adopt instead of buying, as rescue animals make wonderful pets.
