One day it is hot and the next it is cold, and it sure makes it difficult to know what clothes to wear. The changes in temperature have caused a lot of sickness. Many coughs and sinus infections are going around. Why are things this way?
When God originally made the world, it was totally different than what we see now. No sickness or diseases or seasons like summer and winter. It did not rain, and we did not have floods or droughts. The plants and trees were adequately watered with a mist. (See Genesis 2:5-10) So why the big change? It was God’s punishment on Adam and Eve for their disobedience in the Garden of Eden.
Genesis 3:17-19 And to Adam he said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; 18 thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field. 19 By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
Later, God also punished mankind with a worldwide flood because of so much wickedness and disobedience.
Genesis 6:11-13 Now the earth was corrupt in God's sight, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. 13 And God said to Noah, “I have determined to make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
God promised as long as the earth remains there will be day and night, summer and winter, cold and heat.
Genesis 8:21-22 And when the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma, the Lord said in his heart, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man's heart is evil from his youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done. 22 While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.”
There are some big major catastrophic events yet to take place. There will be one last and final accounting and judgement for every person that has rejected Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior. (See Revelation 20:1115, 21:8) The good news is God is going to make a new Heaven and Earth that is perfect, no defect and every born-again believer, proclaiming Jesus as Lord and savior, will live there forever and ever/ (See Revelation 21:1-7, 22-27) See you in Church next Sunday.
