San Saba County's first community Animal Shelter - a reality

San Saba County Friends of Animals has saved more than 72 dogs and 110 cats this year alone with just a handful of foster homes. We are currently a foster-based rescue, but thanks to a generous donor, we now have the opportunity to lease property with a 50x50x16 building and create San Saba County’s first community animal shelter.

Our programs include the Spay and Neuter Assistance Program, which helps residents with low-cost procedures; the Trap Neuter Return program for feral cats; and Disaster Relief, which has provided supplies and support to local families and the Red Cross after the July floods.

The shelter project is a major step forward, but the building requires significant work including $29,000 for air and heat, $13,000 for spray foam insulation, concrete work, kennels, fencing, shelving, storage, towels, blankets, washer and dryer sets, a refrigerator for vaccines, and a mower for the 2.34 acres. Our veterinary bills range from $2,000 to $8,000 a month, and once the shelter is open, we will need ongoing community support to keep it running.

Our goal is 1,000 people giving $10 a month to sustain the rescue and make a lasting difference for the animals of San Saba County. With your help, we can finally open a safe haven for the many dogs and cats that have nowhere else to go.

Every gift, whether monthly or one-time, goes directly to the animals. To donate or learn more, please visit SanSabaAnimals.com.
