The San Saba Garden Club is pleased to name Jan Anderson of 1502 West Commerce Street as the July Yard of the Month recipient.
Each month, the Garden Club honors a local resident whose outdoor space adds charm and beauty to our Hill Country gem.
This month’s stunner is Jan’s expansive yard, where arched oaks spread their branches above a lush carpet of St. Augustine grass. A rainbow of cannas, zinnias, elephant ears, ajuga, coneflowers, morning glories, trailing petunias, and more burst across the landscape. Cheerful potted red geraniums nod welcomingly near the front walk, while the manicured side yard features a gazebo surrounded by giant cannas and hanging ferns— a picture- perfect spot for morning coffee or an evening refreshment.
The home, built shortly after World War II, was purchased by Jan and her late husband, Carlos, 20 years ago from Patricia and John Griggs. Since then, it has often rung with the laughter of their children and grandchildren—filling the garden with not just beauty, but priceless memories.
When asked her secret, Jan said yardwork is her therapy— and a way to connect with the community. “People often stop by to admire the flowers and say hello,” she shared.
Congratulations, Jan, and thank you for helping make San Saba bloom.
