A last minute change in plans left me without time to write my column this week. It turned out to be a wise change. Russ was worried about road conditions in the dark. So here I am in Toronto waiting for my connection to Ottawa, capital of Canada. I have been attuning my ears to the sound of French speakers. When you couple that with the Spanish I’m learning, my brain is going crazy. They are so close in some ways but not in all ways.
There’s not much news about the flooding here, mostly numbers. I watched the news earlier in Austin, and it was sickening. We had an emotional time in church yesterday. Governor Abbott’s Proclamation was honored. Mondo Garcia showed a clip of the devastation and spoke of the reports that were passed down to him. He asked that we as a community unite and support the families. He also asked that we unite as a community and treat each other with kindness and respect. I appreciated the message.
Please pray for those heartbroken families. A few have been found alive but many more are missing. Please pray for the searchers. Theirs is a difficult task with little reward. My next column will be from the lake.
